The post closes with the reveal of a new, VR title in the Horizon series, Horizon Call Of The Mountain, that is being developed by both Guerilla Games and, new Sony acquisition, Firesprite. This is accomplished through the use of in-headset cameras that can also track the PSVR2 Sense controllers, removing the need for an external camera. PSVR2 also implements eye tracking to add a new level of interaction for the player, as well as enables foveated rendering to more efficiently direct rendering power to the visuals the player is currently viewing. The post describes situations where “gamers can feel a character’s elevated pulse during tense moments, the rush of objects passing close to the character’s head, or the thrust of a vehicle as the character speeds forward.” The headset will also feature a built-in motor that will be used to simulate physical sensations within a game. This essentially means that playing on PSVR2 will be a fully current-gen experience that makes the most of the PS5’s improved hardware.
The new headset will feature 4K HDR resolution with a 110-degree field of view on an OLED display capable of up framerates up to 120hz.
The first bit of info the post digs into is the visual fidelity of PSVR2. This post comes alongside Sony’s presentation on the new virtual reality system at the Consumer Electronics Show. The official name for Sony’s new VR system is PlayStation VR2, while the new controller will be called the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller.
In a surprise post to their blog Tuesday night, Sony has revealed a wealth of information about the upcoming sequel to their VR headset.
